The Good Flock Leather Goods
Using precise CAD tools, I design and prototyped leather goods for The Good Flock, a lifestyle brand centered on locally produced and natural products all made in the USA.

Inspired by function and a minimal sensibility towards construction, I designed this line of products by dreaming up items I wanted to use, then exploring shapes through sketching, developing the design by making first prototypes out of paper and testing iterations with natural leather lasercut to exact specification to test the pattern with hardware fit. I provided CAD files to a local precision diemaker to produce professional dies in clear polycarbonate for cutting the leather shape. A single click of a hydraulic press would produce all details necessary to craft the final product, using hand shaping tools only for finishing edges. These approach allowed mass production and a consistent and beautiful line of products, all assembled by expert craftsmen leather workers in the Portland area.

As a designer, I experienced real joy in creating products that would be kept close to the body, with materials that actually develop character with use over time, like a living partner in someone’s life. I still use one of the wallets I made myself, and it will continue to last for years to come.
