Inspired by the idea of light carving away at a log, I began by sketching and exploring forms in Rhino 3D. The design evolved through a process of CNC and hand-turned prototyping, allowing me to refine the shape and ensure perfect balance. The final lamp, crafted from domestic hardwood and accented with cloth-covered wire, brings a warm, natural light to any space. I developed a hardwired version with hidden hardware that allowed for a simple twisting motion to install, and sourced production partners so the product was UL certified and able to be used in commercial projects.
Collaborating with the artisan woodturner Tim Cochran out of Aurora, Oregon, I learned a lot as a young designer and am proud to have created this piece which celebrates the beauty of natural materials and craftsmanship. Hundreds were produced over the years, all by hand, supporting a local economy and built to last.
